Lightning is the story of Thomas, a middle-aged man, who finds a teenage girl huddled on his doorstep after a storm. He tries his very best to help this beguiling young stranger who has found herself alone in a large intimidating city. Thomas gets more involved than he intended. Reminded of his own daughter, and his ex-wife, who have both gone away from him now, he persists in helping Zara, despite having doubts and fears. And things don’t quite turn out as he expected.
