Maureen Kelleher is a young Irish woman, who leaves school at thirteen, and leaves home at seventeen. Firstly she works for a family in Bray, near Dublin, and finds that families can work in mysterious ways, and what seems obvious sometimes definitely isn’t.
Offered a job with another family in London she moves to England and has the opportunity to develop skills and talents she didn’t even realise she had.
A boyfriend and marriage follows, and here she encounters for herself some of the difficulties and challenges that families and relationships inevitably bring with them.
From post-war Ireland and London, Maureen goes through the 50’s and into the early 60’s, where she finds herself given the potential for a whole new future.
